Keeping Belvedere Lake’s ecosystem balanced is no easy task due to its shallow depth, ratio of public use versus small lake size, and the amount of wildlife that occupy the site.

Our Island proposal aims to address a few issues that will assist Belvedere Lake to function at its best and highest use to help balance this man made aquatic habitat. Designing a constructed wetland has been shown to increase fish populations.

In low income areas, our urban lakes provide an important free animal protein source for the people living near a public lake. Belvedere Lake has been identified as one of these protein sources.

Additionally, the East Los Angeles community, that visits Belvedere Lake, experiences a sense of pride when they are able to fish for their food. AquaPlanet’s implementation of a Floating Treatment Wetland would mean more healthy fish to eat for more families.
